Today we spent the better half of the day at Children's here in Dallas. Tyler started out with an ultrasound early this morning. He wiggled a lot and did not enjoy being held still. Then, we went to have the test that will tell us how well his one kidney is functioning. They had to insert and IV for just long enough to give him a special medicine. The tech said Tyler was really strong and wiggly so he got some extra hands for holding. As an old ER nurse, I know my baby must be a strong 4 month old when 3 people are holding him still! They had to stick him twice to get the IV, and he let them hear how mad he was. This mommy is not used to hearing her baby cry like that, so I had to hold back my own tears. We made it through and they gave him the medicine, then we waited an hour and a half. Once again, he was strapped down so they could get good pictures. He cried some, but ended up falling asleep for most of the test.
Tyler did such a good job today! He is now playing on the floor like nothing happened at all. Greg and I are so blessed to have this amazing child. He smiles constantly and loves to move around!
We won't know anything until Monday when we go back to the doctor. Please pray for all good results. I will admit although I have come to grips with the fact he only has one kidney, it broke my heart a little today when I could see only one in the pictures. I want the best for my little guy and I know Greg does too. Our prayer is that he can live a normal, healthy, and active life with just one kidney. The doctors seem to think this is absolutely possible as long as we have good function in it.
I will let everyone know how our visit Monday goes. Thanks so much for your prayers.
