Surgery, Surgery, Surgery

Well, today was a good day. I made it to Knoxville in time for Mom's group PT. This is were the "coaches" learn how to help their loved ones with PT and they have the hospital PT guys there to instruct. It was really laid back. There were 5 patients including mom in the room. Chris, her therapist, was really great too. Mom is recovering well with minimal pain right now. She says it just feels tight on the under side of her knee, but this is to be expected. She has already gone up and down steps which will help us tomorrow when she comes home. Tomorrow we go to another group therapy session at 12:30 then hopefully make it home by 3pm! I know she is anxious to come home to her own bed.

Chris, my brother-in-law, also had laser eye surgery and is doing great. I asked him today if it was like changing the channels between normal TV and high definition TV! He said it kinda is like this! He will heal over the next few days until he sees things less hazy and perfectly clear! Glad this worked out so well also.

Of course Katherine gave us the good news that Ella does NOT need surgery on her kidneys and we are thankful for that. I will not steal her thunder since she has already blogged about it, but we have been praying and will continue to pray for complete recovery.

Now for the slightly bad news. Some of you may know that I have been having pain in my left hip since I trained for the half marathon this past spring. I thought I had pulled something, but it just never stopped hurting. Well, I finally decided to go to the Ortho about it. Yesterday I saw Dr. Guyton. He explained to me that I have Femoral Acetabular Impingement. http://www.hipfai.com/ This website will explain it better than I can. Basically, the head of my femur is rubbing the socket part of the ball and socket of my hip, causing the pain and possibly tearing the labram, the soft tissue in the hip. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hip-labral-tear/DS00920 (another link explaining better) Anyway, if untreated it can cause severe arthritis and eventually causing me to need a total hip replacement. We are not talking about when I am 50 either this is in the next several years. So, I will need arthroscopic surgery. This is a minimally invasive surgery that takes 1-2 hours from what I have read and they will basically shave off the part of the femur that is too big. Then, I will need to walk on crutches for 2 months! I always bragged I had never had a broken bone, so I guess no I am making up for lost time.

So, as far as prayer requests go:
-Pray for quick recovery for Mom and Chris and complete healing for Ella.

-That I will know when is the best time to schedule my surgery for the hip and all
my questions will be answered

-For peace about all the things we have to start to get worked out like changing
insurances, me being out of work for 2 months, and paying for whatever our new
insurance will require us to pay.

-Pray that I will continue to trust God in this and know His plans are bigger than
mine.

-Also, pray for my friend Callie's mom, Tricia, having surgery on Friday to
remove cancer in her pancreas

I have really seen that I am trusting God in this so far! I think the road will get rough as we get all the kinks worked out, but right now I just feel like He has got this. He certainly did not cause this pain in my hip, but He will work all things for the good of those who love Him. So, thanks for all of your prayers, and I will certainly keep you updated on everything.
